The Many Benefits of Gate Automation

Gate motors / operators have been around for the last two decades or so and, much like us; they have also evolved to be robust quick-thinking machines that are able to relentlessly guard our offices and homes like unflinching sentinels. I want to buy a LiftMaster RSL12V, are there any accessories that I need to buy to install this gate opener?

RSL12V

Rob has a fair question for us today: I want to buy a LiftMaster RSL12V, are there any accessories that I need to buy to install this gate opener?

Answer: Well Rob, the RSL12V already has the battery backup built in as well as the new Security+2.0 receiver, you will however need to determine the quantity and then purchase your remote control transmitters as these are not included… Now as far as the peripherals go, that’s a whole other ball game. For example, if you want to have the gate open automatically as you approach it to leave, then you will need an exit probe. If you are planning to use the Auto-close feature on your gate, then it is always recommended to add a photo-electric cell, this will prevent your gate from accidentally closing on a vehicle...

I purchased the Liftmaster 893MAX 3-Button Visor Remote Control. I live in a condo with a large commercial garage door. We have a Liftmaster 362LM remote. Can I program the new remote from the 362LM? If so how?

893MAX-250
Andrew in Florida would like to know: : I purchased the Liftmaster 893MAX 3-Button Visor Remote Control.  I live in a condo with a large commercial garage door.  We have a Liftmaster 362LM remote.  Can I program the new remote from the 362LM? If so how?

Answer: Good morning Andy, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the 893MAX although usable across the spectrum of Liftmaster receivers, it is not trainable to learn from another transmitter, the only remote that I have at this time from Liftmaster with a “learn” feature is the 894LT, which will pick up any frequency post 1996 and some dip switch settings. That is in stock and readily available for $29.50 + shipping.

Question: Greg out of Georgia wanted to know: We have a client that has a pair of your MAT-DC-BB3 Mega-Arm units that are integrated with a Lenel On-Guard access control system.  There are no ground loops or sensors; the arm is programmed to close after a few seconds.  There are hardwired open and close buttons as well.  The client is experiencing a problem where the arm has closed faster vehicles could get out of the way.  I have downloaded the installation manual but have not had an opportunity to review it in its entirety.  In the meantime, is there a way that the arm can be set up where the only way to close it is through the button, manually (even if the access control system opens it)?

Answer: Good afternoon Greg, as a matter of fact yes there is a way to turn that feature off…...

Charles has a more technical question: My SL575 Heavy Duty Gate Operator has a broken Stop Switch SINGLE button 3BCS. The manual gives part number 23-30716, however after searching on the net the switch actually looks like a switch PN# 23-34815. Are these switches compatible?

Can the LiftMaster Star 450 unit be programmed to be controlled from my cars home link system?

liftmaster-star450-250
Question: Hi, I live in a small apartment building with a LiftMaster Barrier Gate. The control pads for adding new remotes is a LiftMaster Star 450 unit. I would like to program this unit to be controlled from my cars home link system. Is this possible? If so do I follow the same instructions as for the 450 unit, thanks, Arun.

Answer: Per your recent email enquiry, you must first follow the instructions on your automobiles user manual to program the frequency of the LiftMaster Star450 receiver into your ‘HomeLink’ system using an actual working transmitter, then you “ADD” the ‘HomeLink’ in your vehicle to the receiver by programming it like any other transmitter.
